Tips on Finding the Right Neighbourhood

When moving to a new area whether that be within the same city or a whole new location, it’s important that the area suits your needs. However, your requirements will vary depending on your family type- young couples for example may want to live near bars and restaurants while families with children will be interested in nearby schools.

Undoubtedly, there’s a lot to think about, but luckily for you this blog will explain some of the important factors to consider when finding the right neighbourhood.

Visit

A good way of observing the goings-on of an area is to visit in during three times of the day- morning, afternoon and evening on different days of the week. This is especially good if you’ve got your eye on a particular property and want to find out more about the road, it will help you to find out about traffic noise and potentially your new neighbours!

Commute
Long car journeys to work or having to catch several buses is never fun, it may be okay for the first week but over time it’s likely to take its toll. Living relatively close to your workplace is an important factor, since the commute is a daily routine for those working full-time. If you’re unsure of how long it might take, research bus times in the area or do a trial run in your car.

Schools

If your child is coming up to school age or you plan on switching schools when you move, then you’ll need to find out about those in the area. A quick search on the Gov website will come up with nurseries, primary and secondary schools nearby, and you can then look at the Ofsted reports for a better idea on how the school is run. You’ll also need to find out about catchment areas to find out how likely you’ll be able to enrol your child.

Facilities

While living in the country is great for those who want a slower pace of life or enjoy spending their spare time on country walks, others will favour areas with adequate shopping and modern facilities. Deciding what kind of lifestyle you want will determine which areas are best for you. If you don’t want a busy city right on your doorstep, then why not consider a location in a quiet area with great transport links for trips on the weekend?
